Today, I'm writing about the feast of Ramadan. In Pulaar it is called "Julde Korka". This Ramadan, we were visiting one of our friend's houses. Whenever you visit for Ramadan, they bring you in a hot room for tea, and for food. We got to watch Senegalese dancing on the television. They served everyone there a drink called tufam. They slaughtered one of their animals for everyone celebrating with them, and they are a poor! So they gave everyone celebrating with them their best things, even though they are poor! It's not very nice sweating though! Well, I mean, because they bring you in a hot room! It's nice if you're in a cool place, but on this day, it was very hot! By the way, they only have one fan on when you are in the hot room! It's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hot!!!!!! Next time, I'm going to ask my Mom and Dad to bring a fan so that we will have two fans! What?! I'm dripping with sweat! Seriously! I really mean it!
P.S. This is not where we celebrated Ramadan, it's what I was dreaming of when I was so hot!

Hope, while you are writing this, I am imagining you melting like a popsicle! Is that how it feels? I am sorry it's been sooo hot for you! It's so amazing you guys have a pool you can play in to cool off! Thanks for sharing about Ramadan's Feast, it sounds like it was a big celebration! -Abigail
ReplyDeleteI felt like I was melting like a popsicle! Yes, it does feel like that. Yeah, it is quite amazing! Although, its way to cold sometimes! It's like sitting on a ice-burg! Or being in the coldest place on earth when the pool is too cold! You're welcome! It is a big celebration! ....Hope
DeleteHi Hope! Thank you so much for telling us about Ramadan! Guess what? I have had tufam before when I visited Africa before you were born. Lily was 2 years old and she was serving me and some other women as we sat in a circle in your parents' salon. It sure sounds like you were very, very hot! Are the clothes you wear hot? I am impressed and touched that so many people that are poor as you described are so generous. We can learn from them to be more generous. Thanks again for writing! Love, Grandma
